Humble Hearts School

I am going to Nairobi, Kenya this Wednesday, June 23. I am incredibly excited and can't believe I leave in 2 days! My hope is to keep this blog updated and post pictures throughout my trip. I will be in Kenya until July 11th.

I am going with 12 other USD graduate students and we will be working at a school called Humble Hearts. Humble Hearts school began as an orphanage for deaf children in 2003, by a woman named Beatrice Anunda. Currently, there are 40 deaf children and 130 hearing students. While in Kenya, we will be staying at the Rusam Villa Guest House. We will be spending the majority of our time teaching/learning and helping at Humble Hearts. Each morning, we will work in the classrooms and do service work throughout the afternoon. The service work may include painting, farming, gardening projects, working in the kitchen, sewing, school projects, and who knows what else!! For everyone's sake, let's hope I don't have to do any cooking :)

We will also be going on a 3-day safari. I don't know many details yet, except that I will be needing my malaria pills for these days!

At this point, I don't really have any expectations...I am so grateful for this opportunity and my plan is just to take it day by day and enjoy the experience.
